This was a huge weekend in Houston, it was the NBA All Star weekend! What an incredible collection of elite athletes, all doing what they do best, playing the game they love. One of my favorite parts of this weekend was the slam dunk competition, this year it was spectacular, a young player named Zach LaVine threw down some of the best dunks we’ve seen in years!
As I watched LaVine prepare for his dunk, I saw him do something interesting before he took off for his stellar dunks, he counted his steps or as the announcer said, “He measured it…”. In other words, he knew exactly what it would take to execute his strategy. In LaVine’s performance, he counted every step because every step counted.
I want to remind you that in your life every step counts! I truly believe that every step in our life has been counted and established by the Lord so that our lives would reflect the abundant life that Jesus came to give us. This is how Psalms says it
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord…” Psalm 37:23 (KJV)
Because you have been made righteous (good) by Jesus’ finished work, your steps have been ordered by God. Our steps being “ordered” carries with it a context of having been laid out and literally in the original language, counted. Think about that, the Lord has essentially counted out all of our steps, he has measured the steps that we need to take to fulfill our purpose, and to fulfill it with great success!
Be sure of this today, that His promises are already laid out in front of you, they continue to be a resounding “Yes and Amen!” The question is, are we walking in the steps that He has ordered? You see, this is where that dreaded “A-word” comes into play in our lives….accountability.
Accountability: a willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions.
- Are you believing God for a new job? Great! Do you recognize that He orders your steps as you look for the new job?
- Are you believing God for a promotion? Great! Do you recognize that He ordered your steps to be excellent in your current position?
- Are you believing God for an improvement in your finances? Great! Do you recognize that He orders your steps to plan and spend wisely?
See, the question is shouldn’t only be “God what are you going to do for me?”, the question should also be “God what do you want me to do?” I’m certain that when you ask God this question He will answer you! He’ll show you what to do and how to do it. His word will empower you and lead you to wise decisions and actions. Every decision and every action carries in it incredible purpose, this is what Paul said:
“…we run for an eternal prize, so I run with purpose in every step…” 1 Corinthians 9:25-26 (NLT)
Every decision, every action, every step matters. God has placed His will and purpose in every step we take, so every step counts. Today I challenge you to ask the Lord what steps you should or even shouldn’t be taking. Let’s make every step count!
